Line Rod Wrap Around
Line Rod Wrap Around
This is something I cover on coaching sessions, there's a quick way to sort it out without getting off your seatbox.
Twist around holding the rod with your feeder dangling on 4 to 6 feet of line.
Swing the feeder so that it lands on a snag free area of the bank behind your peg. A loaded method feeder can safely be landed on grass without losing more than a crumb or two of groundbait (and keeping the hookbait covered). You need to land it in the right place to minimise slack line between rod tip & feeder once the rod is dropped.
Point the rod toward the feeder, ensuring that the reel and therefore rings are on the bottom of the rod (line from tip to feeder not taught, but no excess slack either).
With your left hand (assuming that you aren't a left handed devil offspring) gently pull on the line, or carefully wind the reel. Don't pull hard unless you want to risk your rod tip!
This untangles the tip in all but the worst cases. I'll explain how it works if anyone's bothered.
It also works for other feeders, but the exposed hook can hook the grass. So for bombs (or other feeders, although you'll need to reload if its already baited up) do it by swinging it into the margins, use more line if the waters deep (this makes pointing the rod at the bomb easier). For floats, obviously use the water.
It's actually a 5 second solution, takes far longer to describe than to do!
