Why are 19 inch server rack enclosures SO expensive?

About 6-7 years back I got a 32U 4-post with a 2U VA UPS, 3ea 4U chassis with rails (they had Athlon 700 servers in them, garbage), three fixed 2-post shelves, 1 slideout 4-post shelf, two workbench power strips, a 16-port 10/100 switch and 8-port VGA/PS2 KVM, set of 9 KVM cables, complete set of power cables and dual ethernet cables for every machine, and it was about $300 for the lot.

That was to replace my $50 old-ass Compaq 48U 4-post... now that thing was just way too big all around. Kept the kids out of my stuff though.
