PVC Tarpaulin & Film

PVC Tarpaulin is an innovative three-layer fabric construction, consisting of a textured scrim material sandwiched between two layers of polyvinyl film (PVC). The scrim can be crafted from various materials such as cotton, fiberglass, nylon, polyester, or mixtures thereof. The durability of polyester is often gauged by the denier of the fibers and the density of the weave, expressed in threads per inch. For instance, a 9x9 scrim contains 9 threads running vertically (warp) and 9 threads horizontally (fill). Additionally, the vinyl's thickness is quantified in mils (1 mil equals 1/1000 of an inch), and specialized treatments can endow it with properties like flame resistance, antimicrobial features, static resistance, and UV protection. The weight of PVC tarpaulin is assessed in ounces per square yard; for example, a 13 oz. material weighs 13 ounces per square yard. The lamination process imparts various surface textures, which can include finishes like matte for banners and polish for tents. Our standard core size for rolling this material onto cardboard is typically 3 inches in diameter, although 2-inch cores may be utilized in certain cases. Furthermore, these PVC films can be combined with polyurethane, silicone, acrylic, and blended rubber coatings, often reinforced with non-woven, woven, or knitted fabrics of nylon and polyester. The width of our PVC tarpaulin ranges from 1.02 meters to 5.10 meters, with color options available based on customer demands. The versatility and robustness of PVC tarpaulin enable the production of specialized materials suitable for a variety of applications:

DuraTarps @ Coated or laminated PVC tarpaulin materials are available for diverse applications such as tents, swimming pools, boats, bounce houses, membrane structures, ventilation ducts, truck covers, medical mattresses, and more. Maximum width available: 5.1 meters.

When it comes to manufacturing PVC tarpaulin, several types of machinery are utilized based on specific material requirements:

  1. Calendering Machine: This equipment is used to produce PVC film by mixing the raw materials into a paste form, then passing them through rollers to achieve the desired thickness. Calendared vinyl films are derived from a traditional process involving extruding a dough-like composite of PVC, pigments, plasticizers, and stabilizers, followed by rolling through heated polished rollers. The resulting film is fused with a polyester backing and can receive a variety of finishes, including matte and glossy.
  2. Cold Lamination Machine: An earlier innovation in the industry, this machine continues to be widely employed for laminating PVC films to polyester base fabrics, facilitating a quick, high-speed production process. However, the limitations in drum temperature and pressure may affect the longevity of the final product, making it more suitable for budget applications such as low-cost flex banners and tarpaulins.

This equipment remains prevalent due to its efficiency.

  3. Hot Lamination Machine: This advanced version operates over a longer time frame, reaching significantly higher temperatures and pressures. With more sophisticated embossing rollers and surface treatment systems, this machinery produces high-quality, high gsm materials suitable for tents, covers, and inflatables. It can apply an acrylic coating for self-cleaning properties and enhance adhesive performance for semi-coated PVC tarpaulins, ultimately improving the product’s technical data and life-span.
  4. Knife Coating Machine: Distinct from lamination machines, a knife coating machine directly applies PVC resin to the base fabric using a doctor blade, followed by drying with embossing rollers. This sophisticated option yields superior coating quality, significantly extending material lifespan beyond 10 years. It is ideal for heavy-duty applications, offering excellent tensile strength for both permanent and temporary uses, including luggage, bags, and protective coverings. Roll widths for PVC coated vinyl range from 1.0 meters to 5.1 meters, with weights from 240 gsm onwards and thicknesses between 0.19 mm and 2.0 mm.

PVC Tarpaulin Types and Specifications:

Multiple combinations of polyester yarns and weaving methods can influence tearing and breaking strengths. Additionally, manipulations in thickness and PVC film structure allow for weight control, enabling features like fire resistance, anti-static properties, airtightness, and chemical resistance. The hardness of the PVC film also impacts its tactile feel. Various production technologies (such as cold lamination, hot lamination, and knife coating) can cater to specific applications, and different embossing rollers can yield textured finishes. As an OEM manufacturer, Duletai New Material offers a vast selection of materials across styles and specifications or can produce fully customized solutions based on client requirements.
