Window Locks, 2 Sets Sliding Window Locks with Key for...
I don't have sliding windows but regular vertical windows that most of us have and it has been hard to find locks that fit regular windows because they have to be wide enough to lock onto the side of the window frame and these are perfect. It came with foam inside the lock which I assume protects the window frame but I took that out to make it wide enough. I just pushed it onto the window frame, screwed in the "screws" and it was done. Takes about 10 seconds once you get used to it and you aren't opening the windows. I even had my son-in-law try and he's a big guy, he couldn't force the window up hard as he tried. Even though I live in a safe city, I don't want to leave my windows wide open when I'm not home or when I'm sleeping and these let me still enjoy the cooler temps without worrying about someone coming in while I'm not home or sleeping. Highly recommend them.

Vertical vs Horizontal Blinds: How to Choose the Right One
Vertical vs Horizontal Blinds: How to Choose the Right One
If horizontal blinds are typically known to accommodate larger windows, what are vertical blinds used for? Whether you're installing window blinds or planning to replace existing ones, the vertical vs. horizontal blinds discourse inevitably arises. However, it's about more than just window sizes.
To help simplify this vertical vs. horizontal blinds discussion for you, we at Factory Direct Blinds are here to explain the subtleties. Let's dive right in.
Overall Benefits of Horizontal Window Blinds
Seize control of natural lighting with blinds typified by their horizontal orientation. Here are the top-notch benefits:
- Versatile Fit: From tall, thin windows to wide ones up to 240 cm, these blinds adapt with ease, even in high-moisture rooms or for bay windows, french doors, and more. Opt for faux wood or aluminum in moisture-prone areas for durability.
- Easy Operation: Pull a string, and voila! Horizontal blinds open and close effortlessly, surpassing the speed of their vertical counterparts and roller blinds.
- Superior Light Control: Their slatted design promises remarkable room darkening up to 95%, directing light to your liking and ensuring privacy.
- Diverse Options: Find them in plastic, aluminum, wood, and faux wood in an array of colours and sizes, sure to compliment any room decor.
Overall Benefits of Vertical Window Blinds
With thicker slats often seen as a defining feature, these sun-blocking wonders are a homeowner's delight. Here's why:
- Easy replacements: Damaged vertical slats can be replaced without a hitch, saving the entire set from replacement.
- Privacy and lighting: Thick slats offer UV protection, trap heat during colder months, and keep prying eyes away while admitting gentle light.
- Ease of use: Cover your patio door effortlessly, enabling smooth passage without any fuss.
- Even more height: By fully covering tall windows or sliding doors, they lend an elegant and sophisticated look to your space. Also, if you have pets, vertical blinds offer the chance for them to look outside while still maintaining privacy and keeping your house cool.
Design & Aesthetic Differences
The realm of design and aesthetics is where the disparity between vertical and horizontal blinds truly comes to the spotlight — quite literally!
Vertical Blinds
Vertical blinds are standout pieces noted for their unique design. Hanging from the upper part of the window frame in a vertical fashion, these blinds offer easy access and superior light regulation.
Constructed primarily from larger slats, these blinds effectively limit the amount of light entering the room. The simplicity of moving them aside due to their vertical arrangement further adds to their appeal.
You'll commonly see these draping patio and glass doors, tall windows, and even stretching across wider panels such as French windows and conservatories.

Horizontal Blinds
Boasting a design synonymous with their name, these blinds are recognized by their horizontally arranged, comparatively slimmer slats. Ideal for small and narrower windows, they're often spotted in traditional window settings aimed at promoting air circulation.
While the thinner slats might not perform as strongly in light blocking, they make a stellar choice for smaller or medium-sized windows. The charm of these blinds truly lies in their unique orientation and versatility.
Functional Differences
Stepping beyond aesthetics, this section delves into the functional aspects of horizontal and vertical blinds. How do they operate, what benefits they provide, how sizing matters, and more — all will be explored next.
Light Control & Privacy
Vertical blinds, with their larger slats, offer supreme privacy and superior light control — though they may let in a little extra light due to gaps. Horizontal blinds, sporting thinner slats, allow detailed light direction control but might slightly compromise on privacy.
Depending on your need for seclusion or illumination, you can choose accordingly.
Space & Window Size Considerations
Larger windows and sliding doors bask beautifully in vertical blinds' glory. The elongated design helps you measure for vertical blinds more easily.
On the other hand, horizontal blinds snugly fit onto regular-sized windows. Their stacking height is an added delight that maintains a balance between aesthetic appeal and functional utility.
Durability & Maintenance
The question of how long these blinds will last hinges significantly on their maintenance. Vertical blinds often show less dust, thanks to their standing position, and handle wear and tear better. In comparison, horizontal blinds may accumulate more dirt but are generally easy to clean.
Regular dusting, spot cleaning, and careful handling will prolong their lifespan — keeping your windows chic for years!
Installation & Operation
Vertical Blinds
To install vertical blinds, one normally mounts brackets on the window frame prior to attaching the blind's headrail and sliding the individual slats into place. With an effortless slide, they glide along the track, enabling easy opening and closing.
The installation process, though requiring precision, contributes significantly to their silky operating mechanism.
Horizontal Blinds
If you know how to mount vertical blinds, you'll find it relieving that it's also easy to install horizontal blinds. The process typically involves securely fixing brackets to the window frame and then fastening the blind itself. The horizontal counterparts often come with a cord or wand tilt for easy operation, allowing for hassle-free adjustments to accommodate your lighting needs.
Cost Considerations
Exploring the financial aspect, one may notice a certain disparity between horizontal and vertical blinds.
Usually, the material and customization options influence the final cost of these window enhancers. Vertical blinds, with their larger slats and intricacies, may tip the scale on the higher side compared to the more simplistic, horizontally-aligned counterparts.
